    Brats,

The time has arrived. On Dec. 19, the ABI will most likely be releasing several hundred hotel rooms that it reserved for you, at only $109 a night, for the 2009 reunion in Los Angeles. We may have to do this to avoid any financial penalties for not filling the room block we initially contracted at the negotiated rate. If you do not make your hotel reservation prior to next Friday, that reduced room rate may not be available when you do book your room. Regular rates at the hotel are 50 to 150 percent higher than our negotiated rate. Make your reservation by calling 1-800-228-9290 and saying you are with the AramcoBrats today or you may be paying those higher regular rates for your room come next May. You can also make room reservations online by going to: http://www.aramco-brats.com/reunion_reservations.html and following the instructions from there for online reservations.

Our goal has always been to make every effort to make the reunions as affordable as possible for everyone - as well as planning a good time for you, your family, your best childhood friends, and the new friends everyone makes at a reunion. So, if you are coming or thinking of coming to the hottest party on the west coast in years, make those reservations now and you can be assured of getting the best rate possible for your stay. Bringing the kids? Book two rooms. Bringing the parents? Book one for them, too. But whatever you do, DO IT NOW! We simply can't guarantee the hotel will honor our $109/night rate as the reunion approaches.

In this announcement (more than usual):

    1- Are We There Yet?
2- Change in the Address Update Form.
3- The Hand That Feeds Us.
    4- Have You Seen Me?
5- A Chance to Help Out Aramco Schools.
6- Did You Get the Newsletter?
7- Now Is the Time for Ticketing.

    1- Are We There Yet?
The Los Angeles reunion is just seven (7)-- yes, that's right SEVEN -- months away. We hope you are coming and, if you are not planning the trip, well... we just don't understand. So that we can all begin to share in the excitement, we've implemented an online poll that asks one simple question: Are you coming to the LA reunion? Take the poll here: http://www.aramco-brats.com and then you can view the results to see how many of your best friends -- you know, the only people who really understand you -- are making the LA reunion the next big event in their lives.

2- Change in the Address Form.
As most of you know, the ABI is an all-volunteer organization. We depend on the hearts, dedication and skills of folks who freely give of their time to make the thing work year in and year out. We're always in search of people who want to help because, frankly, we get tired and our brains hurt. New life and new ideas are essential to the successful evolution of the ABI, so we invite you to let us know if you are interested in helping run this show for all the Brats. We've updated the Address Change Form on the Web site to include an option to let us know you are interested. Go to the form at http://aramco-brats.com/address_change_form.html and update your info today.

3- The Hand That Feeds Us.
So while you are on the Web site, hop on over to the AdBak section and consider paying your AdBak now. You are the hand that feeds this organization so that we can maintain the Web site and print and mail the newsletters and election materials. If you haven't already paid your AdBak for the two-year term, please consider doing it now. It's a bargain when you figure the small amount covers an entire two years. You can find the form and payment options here. http://www.aramco-brats.com/adbak.html

    4-Have You Seen Me?
Most Brats can be described as nomadic to say the least. We move from one place to another, flowing across the landscape like dunes across the wadi. In the process, we frequently forget to update our contact information with the ABI. We've posted a list on the Web site (http://www.aramco-brats.com/missingbrats.html) of Brats we know are out there, but for whom our contact information has become invalid. Check out the list and if you know where someone on it is, please ask them to update their information with us. Again, the Address Change Form can be found here.(http://www.aramco-brats.com/address_change_form.html

5- A Chance to Help Out Aramco Schools.
If you ever wanted to give back to Aramco Schools for the excellent education most of us received, now is your chance. Aramco Schools has asked for our help in getting alumni to take a survey the results of which will help them evaluate and strengthen their programs to better prepare students for when they move on. A link to the survey can be found at .(http://survey.corplink.com/LMI/SAYAS2008.aspx?T89Q7BL and will be up for a limited time, so go do it now. They are especially interested in those students who recently graduated.

6- Did You Get the News?
Did you get the latest newsletter? You should have received it within the last 3 weeks. Let us know at .(http://www.aramco-brats.com/ATB_form.html if you didn't get it so that we can check your contact information in our database. The newsletter is now posted on the ABI Web site (.(http://aramco-brats.com/newsletter/Oct08.pdf ) and this issue is packed with great information on the LA Reunion including one that urges folks to make their room reservations immediately. There are limited rooms at our very low rate and once they're gone, you might end up paying much higher rates.

7- Now Is the Time for Ticketing.
One of the reasons we picked the Marriott LAX for the 2009 reunion is its very close proximity to one of the busiest airports in the world. Anybody can fly from just about anywhere to LAX and usually do it for less than to other locations in California. That being said, we've noticed that airfares have actually dropped significantly from their highs recently. Now is the time to book your airline reservations (after you book your room). So quit sitting around reading email and jump on over to your favorite travel or airline Web site and get your ticket to ride.

    Best wishes to all,
    Mike Simms AB 1978
    ABI President
on behalf of the ABI board

    In this announcement:

1 - Room Reservation Operators are Standing By in LA!
2 - A Few Words from the Database Mistress
3 - At Last! At Last! A Full Board At Last!
4 - ABI Information Available Online

1-MARRIOTT LOS ANGELES AIRPORT ROOM RESERVATIONS - - READY, SET, GO!!!!
We are pleased to announce that the Marriott Los Angeles Airport is now ready to begin taking room reservations for our 2009 reunion.

As per California law - all rooms are non-smoking. There are plenty of outdoor areas available for smokers.

The hotel was renovated last year. If you haven't already done so - please look at the images on our website. As always, one of our major criteria is to make the reunion as affordable as possible for everyone from all walks of life. Among other things, we also take into consideration location, atmosphere, banquet and flow of our contracted meeting spaces. The board and the committee think that you will be very pleased with our choice and we are all looking forward to a great event.

The actual dates of the reunion are Friday, May 22, 2009 through Monday, May 25, 2009. This is a larger hotel than in the past. We will not fill the majority of the rooms as we have been able to do at other hotels. Many people like to arrive early and some like to stay a little later. We have negotiated a greatly reduced rate of $109 (plus state and local taxes) for all standard rooms (doubles and kings). This rate is available to us from May 19 through May 27 - based on availability. However, please keep in mind that because of contract penalties and attrition clauses, we did not guarantee more than 5 rooms for 5/19 and 5/20 and we did not block any rooms for 5/26 and 5/27. So if you plan to come early and stay late it would be beneficial to reserve your rooms early while the availability is high. We were unable to negotiate reasonably reduced rates for suites in the hotel. Therefore, we did not block suites in the contract and WILL NOT be keeping a wait list.

There are various ways you can make your reservation:

    1. We have blocked all 113 pool view rooms (with balconies) on floors 1 through 5. You can view outside pictures of this area on our website. We suspect these rooms will fill up quickly. If you would like one of these rooms you may make the reservation directly through the hotel's website.
    2. If you desire a standard room other than the pool view blocked rooms described above (these are in the hotel's high rise building, do not have balconies, and may or may not have a pool view), you may make the reservation directly (this isn't the same link as above) through the hotel's website.
    3. If you prefer to make your reservation via telephone (remember to say you are with AramcoBrats), please call the Marriott central reservation system at: 1-800-228-9290
    4. Suite prices in our contract are $265 for Executive King and $350 for varying other suites. If you want to book one of these you will need to contact our Event Coordinator at the hotel, Caleb Folsom at 1-310-357-8014

If you have any questions or concerns, or encounter problems making your reservation, please contact Diana Ryrholm-Geerdes at diana@aramco-brats.com.

Check out the website for information on "your" reunion committee - and check back often for reunion updates.

And, hey, think about it a little - if you are interested in hosting the 2011 reunion in an area near you, just drop Diane Knipfel-Adams (Reunion Oversight Director) at diane@aramco-brats.com. She will get back to you pronto!

    Diana Ryrholm-Geerdes RT 1962
ABI Director at Large - Contracts

2-A Few Words from the Database Mistress

There are quite a few of you that we have email addresses for, but we do not have a mailing address. Wouldn't you like to have all of this information in the 2009 directory, so that your bratty friends can find you? Please go to http://www.aramco-brats.com/, click on the link at the right "Address Add/Change Form" and send us your address. It's easy! Or, you can send me an email at penny@aramco-brats.com. Be sure to include your district and year and your telephone number.

Not sure whether we have your address or not? You should have received a newsletter in the past week or two. If you did not, then we probably don't have your correct address. (To see the newsletter, just go to the link above and click on "ABI Storage" at the top.)

And while I have your attention, have you moved recently? Has your zip code changed? What about your area code? If so, please let us know. Simply fill out the above linked form or just shoot me an email.

Thanks and I'll see you in LA in May along with your new improved 2009 directory!

    Penny Dougharty Maher DH 1972
    ABI Database Director

3-At Last! At Last! A Full Board At Last!

We are absolutely thrilled to let you know that Randa Owen-Williams DH 1965 has joined the ABI board as Class Representative Coordinator. We would all be hard-pressed to find a more enthusiastic supporter of Brats over the last few years. Randa brings her energetic enthusiasm and creativity to the board and to her position. She has already proposed some excellent ideas for increasing Class Rep participation and has proven herself a valuable asset in board discussions and decision making. Please welcome Randa to your ABI board and if she asks you to participate in some way, please give it serious consideration.

Randa's addition to the board means that we once again have a full board with all identified positions filled but, and this is VERY IMPORTANT, if you have a desire to serve on the ABI board now or in the future, the time to begin the process is RIGHT NOW. All positions are fair game for the next term and while some current officers may elect to run for another term in their current or another position, we always welcome and encourage new folks to run for one of the four elected positions.

If you are interested, contact Gary Barnes DH 1970 our Director at Large -- Nominations.

There is also more information on the board and board positions in the ABI bylaws viewable at http://www.aramco-brats.com/bylaws.html.

    1- Um... oops.

Well, those of you who have received you newsletter in the mail may have noticed that the nice spreadsheet with our financial numbers on it is... well... in a word, wrong. I'm sure the number crunchers out there in Bratdom have been breaking out in cold sweats as they try and figure out how the 2008-09 budget could possibly all add up to what is listed. We're not sure how it happened and how it got by our entire review process, but we want to assure you that despite incorrect information in the newsletter, the numbers posted at http://www.aramco-brats.com/income2008.html since March are in fact true and correct. We will change the pdf version of this latest newsletter to reflect the true budget numbers before posting to the website.

For those who just don't want to go online to figure it out, here are the corrections:

    Account 4900 should be $83,375.
    Total Income should be $120,335.
    5300 should be $28,400.
    6100 should be $2,550.
    7100 should be $83,375.
    Total Expenses should be $128,745.
    Profit/(loss) should be ($8,410.)

Additionally, the entire 08-09 budget column should be labeled "Budget for Current ABI Term."

Sorry for the mistake folks. Please enjoy the remainder of the newsletter.

2- Reunion Hotel Registration Set to Open

Keep a weather eye on the ABI website for new information on making hotel reservations at the Marriott LAX for the 2009 Aramcobrats Reunion. The reservation system will be open for our group after June 15. That's just 6 days away!

Doug brings his extensive exprience in business to the ABI as well as leadership experience in organizing our 1999 AramcoBrat reunion in Atlanta. We are confident that he will carry us through to the end of the term with his enthusiasm and professionalism. Please join us in welcoming Doug to his new position in our organization. In this announcement:

1 - The Envelope Please? And the 2009 Reunion Hotel is?
2 - What I really want to do is direct
3 - Brats to Meet in Vegas
    4 - Departures and Arrivals
    5 - I Decline Your Kind Invitation

    1 - The Envelope Please?
The long wait is over. You don't have to guess anymore. The ABI has signed a contract with a Los Angeles area hotel and given the 2009 ABI reunion a place to call home. We've chosen a hotel that combines best price, convenience and the best quality hotel experience possible. It is a real gem that is just perfect for our group. Just five minutes from LAX, this property couldn't be any more convenient for those traveling from anywhere in the world. At the same time the facilities are superb and the hotel has recently undergone a complete renovation so it will be in very comfortable yet pristine condition for our reunion. The hotel boasts three restaurants, two bars, a Starbucks and a variety of other services without leaving the property. All that and the negotiated price of $109/night just can't be beat in the area.

The hotel is the Marriott LAX and you can see some photos of the place right now, Just go to the Reunion Tab and choose Hotel Images.

2 - What I Really Want to do is Direct
The ABI has received word from Saudi Aramco World magazine of a new audio/video competition open to our younger folks. At stake is a new iPod Touch or iPod Nano for the winning digital audio/video entries. If you are under the age of 24 or you know someone who is a Brat who is in that age group, go to http://saudiaramcoworld.com/rac/ for more information about the competition. Tell 'em the ABI sent you.

    3 - Minireunion in Vegas
The good folks organizing the upcoming Las Vegas mini reunion have their Web site up and running and it looks fantastic. If you are thinking of hitting Vegas to hang out with some of your Brat brethren this April, the organizers invite you to check out their website at http://bratgetaway.com

    4 - Departures and Arrivals.
We have always maintained that service on the ABI board should take second or even third or fourth place to our board members' personal and work lives. Unfortunately, I must report to you that our Vice President, Marie Littlejohn-Dunn DH'77 has asked to resign from her position on the ABI board in order to devote her time to those other priorities. Her sharp intelligence and quick wit will be missed on the board, but we wholeheartedly support her decision. Never fear, however. Marie promises to be in LA with bells on her toes and - if we're all lucky - another gorgeous quilt.

Marie's departure leaves us with at least one and possibly two holes on the ABI board. We have a list of folks who have said they are interested in a board position in the past that we will be working on, but if you think you're not on it, want to re-emphasize your devotion and dedication to your fellow Brats, or want to throw your name into the hat, drop Gary Barnes DH'70 a line at nominations@aramco-brats.com

    5 - I Decline Your Kind Invitation
In accordance with the results from a ballot question in 2005, the ABI will from time to time share contact information on groups of Brats with Aramco Services Company for the purpose of invitations to events hosted by the company. Our agreement with ASC is that this information will be for their sole use and is not to be shared with any other third party for any reason. If you prefer to not have your contact information shared with ASC for this purpose, you may opt out of the program by completing the form at http://www.aramco-brats.com/ASC_Form.html

Only fill this form out if you do NOT want to receive information from Aramco Services. Those Brats who have previously notified us that their information is not to be published are automatically excluded from the program.

Best wishes from the ABI board and keep your eye on LA for Memorial Day weekend 2009. More information will be posted on http://www.aramco-brats.com as it becomes available and check your mailbox in the coming weeks for the upcoming newsletter.

    In this announcement:

1- Somewhere West of the Mississippi...
2- If You're in the Area
    3- So Long. For Now

1- The current board's term expires at midnight today, so we figured before all those new guys come in and steal our thunder, we'd go ahead and let you all know at least the city where the 2009 Biennial AramcoBrats Reunion will be held. Not only is it West of the Mississippi as promised by Marie Littlejohn-Dunn at the banquet in Asheville, it's also West of the Missouri, the Arkansas, the North Platte, the South Platte, the regular Platte, the Powder, the Rio Grande, the Pecos and the Snake. It's also West of the Colorado. And the Gila (that one's usually dry, but whatever). Longitudinally speaking you might make a case that it's also West of the Sacramento, but I think that's just pushing it too far. Come to think of it, now that I have you thinking cartographically, if you were to stick a pin in the map at 34° 03' N 118° 15' W, you would be pretty darned close to where you need to be to see a thousand or so of your best friends come Memorial Day weekend 2009. Google it, fer cryin' out loud. Or keep reading and I'll just come right out and tell you at the end.

We can't divulge the exact location or hotel because we are still negotiating the final contracts. But we're really close. I will say that it hasn't been easy this time. We've had to balance the needs of our growing group with rising room rates and fewer concessions from the properties that meet our minimum requirements. That being said, I think you are going to be pleased with the final choice. So get out your map, dust off your compass, wash your ghutra, dig your sandals out of the back of the closet and plan to attend the gathering of our tribe over Memorial Day Weekend at 34° 03' N 118° 15' on your dog-eared, coffee-stained world map because that will put you square in the middle of Los Angeles, CA and you can just take a limo from there.

2- So. Now the cat's out of the bag. If you happen to live in the LA or surrounding areas and you're interested in giving some time and energy to producing the reunion, shoot us an e-mail at reunion2009@aramco-brats.com. We'll announce the chair later, but for now we need people who would like to be on the committee to step forward and let us know. Reunions are a massive undertaking and being able to share the burden with a group of folks is what makes for a successful event.

3-Midnight on October 31 every two years marks the end of one ABI Board term and the beginning of the next. The bad news is that we're all out of here at midnight. The good news is that most of us are back at midnight plus one second -- well the four elected board members are anyway. The rest follow as soon as we vote to approve them. That usually takes a few minutes. More on who is leaving and who is joining the board in the next newsletter which is in layout at this very moment, but for now, we'll just say goodbyehello and thanks for supporting the ABI and the board. We don't take our jobs lightly and we look forward to the next two years.

    1- Downloadable Ballot
    2- Reunion Raffle Tickets

1- Rooms, Rooms Everywhere... We have noticed that there are a lot of brats who have hotel reservations but have not yet registered for the reunion. Those of you that are holding those precious hotel rooms but have not yet registered for the reunion, we strongly urge you to either register for the reunion or release the rooms to those who are anxiously sitting on the waiting list for the main hotel. It is so much easier for everyone involved if we can iron these things out now rather than in the days immediately preceding the reunion. Shukran!

2- Getting There is the Fun Part. Don't miss the opportunity to be at the reunion! If the cost of getting to Asheville?s airport is holding you back, get creative. In the reunion area under "ways to get around" and also there is a link on the page when you pay for the reunion online. Or just go to: http://www.desert-reflections.com/aramco/shuttle-bus.html I am very excited that the reunion is in my home town this year. It has allowed me the opportunity to attend. I am very much looking forward to spending time with folks I have not seen in a very long time. -Tres Hundertmark RT'83

4- Get Yer Raffle Tickets Here! If you would like to pre-purchase raffle tickets this year, you can do so online at http://www.aramco-brats.com/raffle.html before the reunion . If you do elect to pre-purchase, your tickets will be waiting for you upon registration check-in at the reunion. The online tickets are offered at a discounted rate. Packets of 5 tickets are $15.00 or packets of 10 are $25.00. You will still be able to purchase them at the reunion, at a cost of $5.00 per ticket,or $10.00 for 3. We figured you wouldn't want to buy tickets not knowing what items are being raffled, so there is a link on the same page where you can see images of some of them. Not all items will be shown, since not all items are in our possession (some are already in NC), and more images will be uploaded as time progresses. This section will only be up until May 21st. Dawn heads down to Asheville on the 22nd, so she'll need time to get the tickets together before she leaves.

5- Pictures, pictures, pictures. The North Carolina Reunion Committee has asked me to remind everyone that they are still looking for photos to use in a continuously running slideshow at the reunion. Here is the submission info: Email a digital image to Pam Branch at pbranch1@triad.rr.com, or send photos to Pam at 3211 Kinnamon Road Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Please include names of any folks in the pictures, and make sure you include your name on the back of each photo. They will be returned to you!

It's so much easier than finding and addressing an envelope, writing a check, finding a stamp, putting on pants then walking all the way to the mailbox. We're exhausted just thinking about it!

2-Just When You Thought You Couldn't Fly. We have arranged for group discount fares to the reunion in Asheville with Continental Airlines. Use Z Code ZURD and Agreement Code AZ3JHT when making your reservations. Discounts are valid for travel between 5/20/07 and 6/2/07.

3-The B Board is Back and so is the Reunion FAQ. The BratBoard, Reunion Announcements and Reunion FAQ are back! Have a question for the Reunion Committee? Want to know see the latest reunion-related announcements? Find a ride? Find a roommate? Visit the ABI Reunion forums at http://www.aramco-brats.com/BratBoard/index.php.

4-Getting Around Asheville (as if you'd ever want to leave the reunion hotel) 4a-Party with Class. Yours that is. There are several ways to get from the hotel to Asheville?s lovely downtown area and other popular destinations and restaurants, including a Brat Party Bus organized privately by Brat restaurateur and Asheville local, Tres Hundertmark. Asheville is a very popular destination, so expect restaurants to be busy over the holiday weekend. Accordingly, Class Representatives are advised to make any off-site class party plans well in advance to avoid lines and long waits. For more information and tips on class party planning, see "Getting Around Asheville" (http://www.aramco-brats.com/gettingaround.html) on the reunion site.

5-No Reunion for You? Please Remember the ABI Anyway. Even while we reluctantly forgive you for not making the reunion -- you know who you are -- we still humbly beseach you to not forget to pay your AdBak. Your payment will ensure that you receive the 2007 Aramcobrat Directory and will enable us to continue to bring all Brats newsletters, websites and reunions. We do everything we can to keep our operational costs in line, but there's that whole thing about squeezing blood from a turnip. Paying your biennial Adbak is simple by going to http://www.aramco-brats.com/adbak.html where you have the option of paying the modest sum by either check or credit card. The Brats will love you for it.

6-Please Don't Bogart Those Rooms There is quite a growing waiting list for rooms at the Crown Plaza for the reunion while at the same time there are more than a few people who have reservations but have yet to register for the reunion. If you are someone who has reserved a Crown Plaza room but have since found that your circumstances have changed and you are not able to attend, please oh please call the hotel and release your rooms so that folks who are coming can get a theirs. These folks are waiting in line patiently, please help them out.
