Bebsi Detail Exhibit
"I finished 9th grade in 1969, and my parents were talking about maybe it was time to return to the States. I promised myself that when we left for good, I wanted to bring a little bit of Arabia with me. While I was away at school that first year, Dad was transferred to Dhahran. So when I returned for the summer, I immediately made plans to go to Ras Tanura. When the family went up one weekend, I took an empty plastic shampoo bottle with me. I walked down the beach, and at one point went out into the surf and filled the shampoo bottle with Persian Gulf water and beach sand. By the end of summer, Dad had decided to take early retirement, so I carefully packed that shampoo bottle in my luggage, along with an empty bebsi bottle. I wasn't going to trust it to the household shipment! When we were finally settled in California, I carefully poured the Persian Gulf water into the bebsi bottle and sealed it with a cork. Unfortunately, it wasn't sealed properly, and the water slowly evaporated or leaked out when we moved again. So, I am left with only half a bottle of water & sand. But maybe one day I will be able to go back to Ras Tanura and get some more!" (Cyndy)
