The last reunion in Atlanta was really shameful. I think there was like 10 of us. I do realize that there is not a lot of us on the east coast so I am flying to the west to where the concentration is ... so there is no excuse. I spent a number of enjoyable evenings with friends from Aramco. Also had many visit with us at the NCO club on the Air Base especially on Bingo night. I remember one young lady, a friendly little girl of about fifteen or sixteen years of age. She had beautiful blonde tresses that flowed down her back like a river of gold. This little lady would probably be in her early sixties now. We enjoyed having the close relationship with those friends from Aramco. It was thier hospitality that made our tour in Arabia a little more bearable. I also did a little broadcasting from AFRD the base radio station, as my room mate was one of the disc jockies at the station. He was the one who coined the intro "You are listening to Armed Forces Radio, Dhahran, where the sand of the desert meets the ball of the eye." As I said this all this happened back in 1954, so I'm sure that many of you would probably not know what I am talking about. This was when Al Kobar was just beginning to become a decent sized city. My father was a craft refrigeration supervisor. I was 5-7 years old during the time that we lived there. I was always the tallest girl in my class and had pale blonde hair. Although I don't remember alot from my time there I do remember taking the bus around the campus and stopping at the "smake pit" to have burgers. My father had a "still" in the kitchen and I was not allowed to bring my friends to the house when my parents were making alcohol. Santa came to town on a camel. I remember we had very little fresh fruit and what we did have my mother had to soak in the kitchen sink with some powder that absolutely stunk. I remember that I used to sit on the sidewalk in front of the house and pop the tar that used to bubble up on the street and between the cracks in the sidewalk. My brother, Lee graduated from the Abqaiq Senior Staff school in l954. He later went to school in Switzerland. We had some crazy times together. I have to confess, I am a very SERIOUS individual now compared to the old days, but it was all worth it for the memories I have today.
