"... And then you re-discover your childhood through the whole Brat reunion. You become who you were or the best of who you are when you're around other Brats. You are YOU before you became a spouse, a parent, a lawyer, a teacher, a success or a failure. Maybe the truest YOU who no one in your real world has ever seen or could ever understand. You no longer HAVE to fit in, because you already do! You always have! It's understood without having to be said. In the same way that a mom knows her son loves her and vice-versa. I guess the trick is, at least for me, to get to that best self all the time. Until then, I think the reunions for a lot of us, are our emotional rescue."
