#10 - Did Someone Say Beach?

The warm breezes and temperate waters of the Gulf of Mexico are just an hour* away.  Take in the historic and recreational attractions on Galveston Island.  Enjoy the Historic Pleasure Pier, salt water fishing, the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa, or Moody Gardens, a 242-acre theme park, education center, and pleasure garden, all in one.

We've only just scratched the surface of things to do and see on this fascinating, historic island.  Find out more about Galveston Island, the gambling capital and playground of the wealthy before Las Vegas was even a twinkle in anyone's eye.

For a shorter excursion, try the Kemah Boardwalk, located just 45 min.* from the Omni on Galveston Bay. The boardwalk features waterfront dining, retail, and amusements and was voted 2014 Local’s Choice Award Winner for Best Attraction and Best Place to Take A Visitor.

Come on in!  The water is fine!

*Check traffic conditions! There will be traffic on the causeway Memorial Day weekend.

#9 - Ghutra Is the New Black!

If we can’t tempt you with private night clubs, drink specials and great Middle Eastern food….then maybe our swag bag goodies will motivate you to attend this Brat Reunion? We searched long, far and hard to bring you a few accessories that will have you rockin’ the ghutra look this season.

Check out these ghutra tote bags made from real cotton ghutra material. You will appreciate the water-resistant lining and sturdy handles on these tote bags -- designed and manufactured to our exacting quality standards and specifications.

And why not pour yourself a stiff drink in one of these ghutra-inspired tumblers? We are sure you will find them handy at the reunion but hope they remind you of “the homeland” for many more drinks to come.

Our motto this reunion: Black is out….ghutra is in!

#7 - The Bull Ride Is Included

Check out the cover of the Texas Monthly issue that is about to hit newsstands!  What a happy coincidence because what would a Texas party be without a mechanical bull?  You can celebrate "Urban Cowboy" turning 35 in style atop a mechanical bull at the Friday Welcome Reception.  We'll provide some food and a photo booth, you can provide the entertainment! Hats and boots are welcome but no spurs, please.

    Ride 'em, cowboy!

A sneak preview of our June issue cover. Can you believe it's been 35 years?

#5 - You Don't Have to Run from Security!

No curfew.  No Security.  No worries...just Brats.  Stay out as late as you want and chat, dance, sing or play loud music together. Enjoy our "Garage Band" instruments/room for a jam session, or join us at the Black Swan for some karaoke on Thursday night (8PM to 2AM) to get this party started and rock the casbah!

    # 4 (Araba'a): “Suq” 'Til  You Drop

The always popular Brat Suq will be open for business, so you can close your eyes and pretend for a moment that you are back in Khobar again!  OK…not really that authentic -- we won’t provide the prayer call or shut down during prayer time -- but Suq vendors will be selling merchandise Brats will love: Shamak sandals, exotic jewelry, arabesque knick-knacks, art and other great items you won’t want to miss.  We'll even have a henna artiste on hand! Our suq will be open every day in the hotel…no bus schedule or conservative dress necessary. (Check your reunion program or hotel info kiosks for hours.)

In addition, Houston really is a shopping “Mecca” in its own right.  A free shuttle to the award-winning Galleria will be provided from the Omni and the Royal Sonesta hotels.  Other great shopping venues are only a short ride away and within 8 miles of the hotels.

And if you really want to "get your Khobar on," check out some of the stores along the Hillcroft strip between US59 and Richmond for Middle Eastern and Indian shops where you can buy "real" gold!

    So suq 'til you drop!
